OVERVIEW
When Boeckel Lab approached me, they were building their first website. As a cardiovascular research lab at Leipzig University Hospital, they wanted something that would clearly represent their work, but also break away from the standard format most academic lab sites follow.
From the beginning, the goal was not to create something conventional. Prof. Dr. Jes-Niels Boeckel was clear that he wanted a site that felt modern, distinct, and more aligned with the quality of the research than the typical “academic template” approach seen across most labs.
My role was to translate a complex scientific environment into a structured, readable website that could communicate both credibility and clarity without feeling generic. The focus was on how information is organized and experienced, so that different audiences, from researchers to students, could immediately understand the lab’s work and focus.
After launch, the feedback from the team was consistent. They shared that the site stood out in exactly the way they had hoped, and that colleagues and students responded positively to how clear and modern it felt. Prof. Dr. Boeckel later said that it had exceeded expectations and that the response confirmed it was the right direction for the lab.
The project reflects the kind of work I am most interested in, helping research and expert-led environments communicate their work in a way that feels clear, structured, and distinct without relying on familiar academic patterns.
